Dr. Chloe Sherrill, PhD works from a relational psychodynamic orientation. Much of what shapes how people think, feel, and connect happens outside conscious awareness, rooted in early experience and repeated across current relationships, including the relationship with a therapist. Dr. Sherrill pays close attention to these patterns as they surface in the room, using that real-time relationship as a way to understand and shift dynamics that show up elsewhere in a client's life.
She holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from The New School.
Before training as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Sherrill spent ten years at Christie's auction house, beginning as a fine art specialist before moving into product development. Her trajectory informs her work with clients who are navigating demanding careers: people looking for depth, not just symptom management; professionals reassessing priorities; and people managing the particular weight of caring for children and aging parents while sustaining their own work and relationships.
Dr. Sherrill approaches her work with curiosity and openness, believing that therapy is a co-constructed space where clients can explore the more difficult or unacknowledged parts of their experience with empathy and growing insight. Over time, this work can offer something many clients haven't fully had before: a steady, attuned relationship that responds differently than the ones that shaped them.
She works primarily with individuals, both in-person and via telemedicine.
A confidential, supportive space to explore the patterns, relationships, and inner experiences that shape everyday life.
What Is a Psychodynamic Processing Group?
A processing group is different from a typical support group: rather than a set curriculum or a focus on skills, the group is unstructured and relational. The content of each session emerges from what members bring and the interactions that happen between members in real time.
The psychodynamic approach is rooted in the idea that many of our struggles—in relationships, at work, with self-esteem, or with recurring emotional patterns—are shaped by experiences and dynamics we're not always fully aware of, including from earlier relationships and family history. These patterns often show up naturally in how group members relate to one another, offering a unique opportunity to notice, understand, and practice new ways of relating in real time, with support.
Explorations and work together could include:
- Relationship patterns with partners, family, friends, or coworkers
- Difficulty setting boundaries or expressing needs
- Feeling unseen, unheard, or disconnected from others
- Self-criticism and perfectionism
- Navigating major life transitions
- A desire for deeper self-understanding
Because the group is process-oriented rather than topic-driven, members often find that issues they didn't expect to work on come up organically, and that the group itself becomes a place to practice new ways of relating.
